The decision makers of many organizations generally face the issues related to information technology which are systems slowdown in retrieving data, inconsistent & inappropriate flow of information which effects decision making, time consuming historical analysis of data and its complexity in performance, difficult & inaccurate analyzing reports due to inconsistence product grouping, problems in correlating different data sources, poor data quality which results in faulty decisions, lack of user friendly interface in generating reports and data analysis, inability in performing in depth data analysis because of absence of supporting technology.
These business problems can easily be overcome by implementing OLAP system which will help in reporting
the accurate data, which is captured in the legacy system and then updated in data warehouse, timely. It enables all users view the required reports at once at any time. Apart from the above mentioned problems, there are many other problems which can easily be solved with the use of virtual cubes & making ad-hoc queries.
OLAP applications also help by enabling the users make future decisions which are needed for improving business and performing the trend analysis which is needed to understand many things like "Why" aspects of many business conditions. OLAP can be termed as category of many applications and technology used for collecting, processing, presenting and managing the multidimensional data which is required for analysis & management use. The main aim of developing OLAP in any organization is to enhance the business operation by allowing the users to analyze the business data appropriately.
To provide a quick access of strategic information used in further analysis, OLAP uses multidimensional view of the aggregate data. Organizations can get better insights of the data by getting fast, interactive and consistent access to vide ranges of possible information views which can be effortlessly shared across many levels in an organization. The OLAP system ensures that the data from other sources are captured accurately and loaded in the data warehouse which allows creation of timely reports in supporting the decision making.
